Hi.

Welcome to my blog.

Handmade Gift Set : Three 3-Ingredient Sprays

Handmade Gift Set : Three 3-Ingredient Sprays

I’m a fan of handmade gifts.

While I’m also a fan of giftcards (my bulging wallet shows I stockpile them), there’s so much more thought, intention, and personal involvement in gifts that are made. It warms my heart to both give and receive these kinds of things.

DIYing doesn’t have to mean hunting and gathering 10+ unusual ingredients from the far corners of town (or Amazon). These three sprays involve just 3 ingredients each, besides water, and take 3 minutes to make!

Since I’m putting together this room spray, linen/pillow spray and body mist to gift to a few friends, I thought I’d share the ideas here.

Take the basic recipe and choose whatever combination of oil scents suits your fancy, or make up your own. Then, add a ribbon, a pretty label, or colored washi tape. Check the Container Store for white boxes and your craft store for other trimmings.

I get the frosted spray bottles for the best price here, but for Amazon Prime shipping you could try these. The cobalt blue and amber from your local health food store can always work too.

Gift the set, use one as a stocking stuffer/gift add-on, or keep them all for yourself. ;)

Room Spray

Freshen up the room or your upholstery right before your guests arrive with this spray. (Then turn your diffuser on with the same oils combo to keep the room smelling festive for hours!)

  1. In a 1 oz. spray bottle, add a pinch of salt. Then drop 12 drops essential oils onto the salt (it will help it disperse in the liquid).

  2. Add 1/2 tsp witch hazel (or vodka). Shake well.

  3. Fill with purified water and shake well before using.

Scent Combinations:

  • Deck the Halls (12 drops Christmas Spirit blend contains: Spruce/Cinnamon Bark/Orange )

  • Frosted Forest (7d Cypress/3d Eucalyptus/2d Peppermint)

  • Merry & Bright (8d Citrus Fresh/4d Peppermint)

  • Spiced Apple Pie (7d Thieves/3d Lemon/2d Stress Away)

  • Flannel & Spice (6d Cardamom/2d Cinnamon/2d Orange/2d Clove)

Body Mist

We can all probably agree that the ingredients in those Bath & Body Works sprays aren’t exactly good for us… (#understatement). Play it safe, with therapeutic benefits to boot, and make your own for just pennies!

The vegetable glycerin adds some moisturizing properties to the spray. I keep it on hand to make my own handsoap. It’s pretty affordable, and you can find it at health food stores in the body care aisle.

I keep my body mist bottle in my purse and I spray it on my hair, clothes, and skin whenever I’m needing a freshening-up.

Directions:

  1. In a 1 oz. spray bottle, add a pinch of salt. Then drop 12 drops essential oils onto the salt (it will help it disperse in the liquid).

  2. Add 1/2 tsp vegetable glycerin. Shake well.

  3. Fill with purified water & shake well before using.

Scent Combinations:

  • Grapefruit Refresher (4d Grapefruit/2d Lemongrass/1d Lavender)

  • Joy to the World (8 drops Joy/2d Bergamot)

  • Citrus & Spruce *my favorite!!* (5d Black Spruce/4d Bergamot/2d Grapefruit/1d Lemongrass)

Linen/Pillow Spray

This recipe can be used for either a linen or a pillow spray, depending on your choice of oils.

Make a linen spray with bright, fresh scents like lavender, citrus, and fresh herbs to brighten up your sheets, towels, or clothing.

Linen Spray Combinations:

  • Lavender Fresh (7d Lavender/3d Purification)

  • Fresh Citrus & Herbs (6d Citrus Fresh/2d Lemongrass/2d Eucalyptus)

Pillow mists, on the other hand, are great for spraying in the cribs of babies and kids’ beds at bedtime. Also helpful for spraying on your own pillow to help your mind wind down and encourage restful sleep. The oils suggested are well-known for their calming and deep-sleep-inducing effects.

Pillow Mist Combinations:

  • Sleep in Heavenly Peace (6d Lavender/2d Frankincense/2d Tangerine)

  • All is Calm (6d Peace & Calming/4d Lavender)

  • Silent Night (6d Lavender/2d Vetiver/2d Cedarwood)

Directions:

  1. In a 1 oz. spray bottle, add a pinch of salt. Then drop 10 drops essential oils onto the salt (it will help it disperse in the liquid).

  2. Add 1/2 tsp witch hazel (or vodka). Shake well.

  3. Fill with purified water and shake well before using.
