Crushin' on Fall
Hey ya’ll. I just want to share with you three delicious diffuser blends to embrace the season.
I forget how much I ADORE this time of year. These colors and the smell of leaves and the fresh air make me happy to be alive. I’m okay that I’m parting with my “soul season” of summer.
It takes me a while to adjust to the idea that days of green, warmth and coat-less bliss is over.
But then… the glory of autumn sweeps me away. And, for about 3 solid weeks, I’m truly grateful I don’t live in Southern California. **EDIT: just kidding… soon as the words leave my fingers, thus begins a Midwestern mood swing of 18 degrees and SNOW…
Diffuser Blend #1: Spiced Cider!! 4 Thieves +2 Orange. SO easy. A fall classic. (ALSO - you can add these drops to a quart or so of REAL apple cider too for some fall spicy deliciousness!)
I LOVE being immersed in experiences. I want the whole shebang.
In the fall, that means (ideally), that my husband and I go on walks through the changing leaves, drink fall-spiced hot drinks (for a Pumpkin Spice Coffee recipe, click here), wear flannel shirts and leather boots, and come home to a house decorated with a cornucopia of pumpkins and mini squashes and fall-colored decorations, with the warm, inviting scent of cinnamon spice wafting through air.
Quitting Cold Turkey
But which kind of cinnamon spice? That’s the question. The real deal? Or a toxic imitation?
All my nostalgia, sentimentality and my need for a 360 degree, fully-immersive experiences drive me to embrace the flavors, sights, and scents of the season. This used to mean that I would buy a new Bath & Body Works set to slather and spray on my skin (so I’d smell like Sweet Pea in the spring, Coconut Lime in the summer, etc…) and a corresponding Yankee candle to scent my room with each changing season.
Since finding out that those candles, lotions, and air fresheners are chock full of fake fragrances that cause respiratory damage and negative effects on our reproductive system, neurological system and brain, we’ve stopped using them altogether in our house. New studies are exploring the increased risk of childhood asthma correlated with the mother’s exposure to phthalates, compounds that saturate artificial fragrances. Not my idea of homey.
I mean, if my goal with a candle is to create a comforting, welcoming atmosphere, those phthalates (not to mention the other carcinogens, or those pesky headaches) just kinda feel like they have the opposite effect!
Guys, I was a chain-candle burner. But I quit cold turkey…all because of a diffuser and some drops of healing plant goodness.
Three in One
What is so incredible about essential oils is that they accomplish some surfacey task really well. Like making the room smell amazing. Or providing emotional comfort.
And then secondly - that unassuming essential oil begins to literally purify the air. Or numb your aches. Or curb your cravings. Or help clear your respiratory system.
And then FURTHERMORE… that oil gets to work deep in your cells and your neural pathways. As a side effect, depending on your oil, it is enhancing your digestive system. Or maybe it’s helping your endocrine system. Or creating some hormonal balance.
They support our bodies and help them do what they were created to do. They support our systems, not just treat the symptoms. (Bet your candle can’t do that!)
It’s like getting 3 things done at once. Or getting a “buy one get three” deal.
Fave Fall Diffuser Blends
Let’s bring a little indulgence, sentimentality, nostalgia, and comfort into your home, shall we? All these blends use the amazingly delicious Cinnamon Bark oil. Click for more on that oil!
The Pumpkin Spice blend uses Nutmeg…which is free this month if you’re on Essential Rewards!
Besides the Thieves Spiced Cider blend above, Here are my other 2 FAVES right now:
Diffuser Blend #2: Apple Crisp. 4 drops Cinnamon Bark, 2 drops Bergamot, 2 drops Grapefruit, 2 drops Lemongrass.
This one is DIVINE, so I figured it deserved a fancy photo. :) It really smells like apples & cinnamon!! I always wondered how to make an “apple” smell with the oils. Shout out to the Young Living Blog for their brilliant diffuser recipe for “Apple Pie!” The Bergamot provides a bold fresh, zesty depth, and the Lemongrass and Grapefruit create the “tang” that makes crisp fall apples so delicious.
Diffuser Blend #3: Pumpkin Spice. The real deal!! No need for a $6, calorie-filled sugar bomb!
(Speaking of which, here’s that coffee recipe again. It’s actually good for you, even though it doesn’t taste like it. ;)
Use 3 drops Cinnamon Bark, 2 drops Clove, 2 drops Nutmeg, 1 drop Ginger and 1 drop Orange. ENJOY!
